I have worked on three "expansions" to Britannia--you would need to have the original game in order to play the expansion. FFG is not interested in publishing any of these versions, so they will likely not see the light of day. The one I have worked on longest, "Epic Britannia" is a longer, more historical, and more complex version of the game using the original set with an added board (for Ireland) and pieces (for additional nations). Clearly, it will not appeal to those who find Britannia to be too long, but it should appeal strongly to those who like the historical aspects of the game. When it is time for blind testing it will also be announced in Eurobrit and my playtesting listserv. Recently I have been working on "Britannia Brevis", a 10 turn version that uses NO DICE. The point system is much simplified, as well. As a wild hair, at Thanksgiving 2006 I tried "Britannia Minimus", a 6 turn version with new movement/sequencing rules and yet another (low chance) combat system. It really works, amazingly enough.
Since I wrote the above, I've made a 6 turn version using most of the standard rules, a different combat system, and the standard sides. I can play it solo in two hours. Once again, though, I don't know that it will see the light of day. |
